Three People Hospitalized After Armed F-16 Fighter Jet Crashed In Riverside Warehouse of See Water Inc

MORENO VALLEY, CALIFORNIA (May 21, 2019) – There is an ongoing investigation into why an F-16 fighter jet armed with missiles crashed into the See Water Inc warehouse.

Moreno Valley police are saying that the plane crash took place around 3:45 p.m. at the warehouse located on 22220 Opportunity Way.

U.S. Air Force Reserve Col. Thomas McNamara said that the F-16 fighter jet that crashed had a standard armament package. Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene of the warehouse in order to help the See Water Inc employees that were injured.

A picture of the scene of the accident showed that the F-16 had punched a hole through the roof of the building. The pilot was able to successfully eject prior to the crash.

There is an ongoing investigation into what may have caused the F-16 to crash into See Water Inc.

Liability In F-16 Fighter Jet Crashes

F-16 fighters jets are owned by the United States’ military. The government has a responsibility to make sure that the civilian population is safe during training exercises. If a pilot was negligent during a flight, the federal government could be held vicariously liable for his/her actions. This is based off of the legal doctrine or Respondeat Superior. There are a number of reasons why an F-16 might crash including:

    • Intentional Crashes: Around 8% of all fatal accidents are due to pilots intentionally crashing planes.
    • Mechanical Failure: Planes are machines and like all machines they sometimes fail. Engine failures are the most common and if a pilot does not know how to effectively control a plane after an engine failure they can be fatal.
    • Weather: Inclement weather is responsible for nearly a quarter (23%) of all plane crashes. Pilots have a responsibility to check the weather patterns before taking off. Thunderstorms in particular can be just as dangerous as flying through hurricanes.
    • Human Error: Pilot error is the single greatest contributor to plane crashes. In particular, most accidents take place right after take-off or during landing. This is the most hazardous portion of a flight.

Any person that is injured in a plane crash may be able to recover damages through a bodily injury claim. Damages can include money for lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. An aviation accident attorney can investigate all of the facts of your case and let you know what your options are. It doesn’t cost anything to hire an attorney and they only get paid if they are able to successfully resolve your case.
