Amelia Earhart Middle School Student Injured In Car Accident Along Aptos Street In Riverside

RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA (March 7, 2019) – A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured in a car accident after he was hit by a pickup truck outside of Amelia Earhart Middle School.

Classes had just been let out at Amelia Earhart Middle School shortly before the boy was hit. The driver that hit the 12-year-old boy crashed into a light pole

Paramedics rushed to the scene of the car accident and treated him for a broken leg before he was taken to the hospital. That driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Liability In Pedestrian Accidents

Drivers are supposed to exercise caution when proceeding through school zones. According to California Vehicle Code 22358.4,  “A 15 miles per hour prima facie limit in a residence district, on a highway with a posted speed limit of 30 miles per hour or slower, when approaching, at a distance of less than 500 feet from, or passing, a school building or the grounds of a school building, contiguous to a highway and posted with a school warning sign that indicates a speed limit of 15 miles per hour, while children are going to or leaving the school.”

Speeding, drunk driving and driver fatigue are some of the leading factors behind pedestrian accidents. A driver that hits a pedestrian may face civil liability for their actions. Any victims may be able to receive damages for their injuries. The average cost for treatment for a pedestrian accident is over $58,000. This can be a heavy burden for individuals as well as families. A pedestrian accident attorney can fight on your behalf and make sure that you are well taken care of.
