According to ABC 7, a 31-year-old woman was arrested in connection to a fatal hit-and-run that killed a pregnant woman in San Bernardino on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.
Mercedes Vanesa Guevara was arrested on Monday, July 17, 2018 and was booked for suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.
The fatal pedestrian accident occurred around 11:35 p.m. near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Medical Center Driver, when the driver of a Dodge Charger lost control of her vehicle and fatally struck a mother, identified as 39-year-old Maribel Gonzalez.
The suspect did not stop to render help to the victim and fled the scene.
Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene of the pedestrian accident, along with her unborn child. According to her family and friends, Gonzalez was just a month away from giving birth to her child.
The cause of the fatal pedestrian accident remains under investigation.
