Man Injured In Pinon Hills Motorcycle Accident Involving Semi-Truck On Sheep Creek Road By State Route 18

PINON HILLS, CALIFORNIA (April 9, 2019) – A motorcycle rider was seriously injured after he was involved in an accident with a semi-truck on Sheep Creek Road by State Route 18.

California Highway Patrol are saying that the crash involved a red 2004 Honda VFR and an end dump semi-truck. The brother of the truck driver says he was was making a wide turn into a driveway at the time of the collision

The motorcyclist struck the side of the semi-truck during the turn and was knocked unconscious. Firefighters rushed to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital.

Police interviewed the truck driver in order to better understand what happened. A full investigation into the cause of the Pinon Hills motorcycle accident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability In Truck Accidents

According to the NHTSA, “There were 37,133 people killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes on U.S. roadways during 2017, a 1.8-percent decrease from 37,806 people killed in 2016, which came after two yearly consecutive increases in 2015 and 2016.” This trend includes lower numbers of truck accidents. But truck accidents still occur for a wide variety of different reasons including:

  • Roadway problems
  • Required to stop before crash (traffic control device, crosswalk)
  • Over-the-counter drug use
  • Inadequate surveillance
  • Fatigue.

A fully loaded commercial truck can weigh as much as 10,000 lbs. There are regulations about how many hours a truck driver can be on the road. Here are just a few of the rules that truck drivers are supposed to follow:

  • Truck drivers cannot work more than 60 hours on-duty in a 7 day period
  • Truck drivers must take a 30-minute break every 8 working hours
  • Truck drivers are prohibited from driving more than 14 hours in a single day

As truck drivers work long hours safety protocols are often not followed as strictly. This is a huge problem when trucks are turning. Truck drivers are supposed to keep an eye out for motorcyclists and other drivers, but this does not always happen. Generally speaking, any driver that makes a left turn into the path of another vehicle will be held at fault in the event of an accident.

Victims could potentially recover damages through a bodily injury claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Even a mild head-injury can costs tens of thousands of dollars to treat. A truck accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your options are.
