Bicyclist Seriously Injured In Palm Desert Car Accident Near Portola Avenue and Silver Sands Parkway
PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA (October 30, 2019) – An 82-year-old bicyclist was seriously injured in a car accident on Friday near the intersection of Portola Avenue and Silver Sands Parkway.
The car accident took place around 7:06 p.m. For reasons that remain under investigation a driver made a left turn before hitting the bicyclist.
The victim was thrown off his bicycle and sustained serious injuries. The 77-year-old driver who hit the victim remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
There is an ongoing investigation into the accident at this time.

Drivers are supposed to yield the right of way to bicyclists before making left turns. According to California Vehicle Code 21801, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement.” Victims of bicycle accidents are able to recover damages through a bodily injury claim.
