Pedestrian Killed In Oxnard Car Accident By Cooper Road Near North Anita Avenue
OXNARD, CALIFORNIA (September 30, 2019) – A child has tragically died after a driver hit a woman who was with her two children by the intersection of Cooper Road and North Anita Avenue.
California Highway Patrol are saying that the accident took place around 7:45 a.m. The mother was with her two children who are 8 and 9 years old.
All of the victims were transported to the hospital. The 17-year-old girl that hit the victim remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Liability In Pedestrian Accidents
Drivers are supposed to yield the right of way to pedestrians that are in lawfully marked crosswalks. According to California Vehicle Code 21950, “The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, except as otherwise provided in this chapter.” Pedestrian accidents tend to take place when drivers are intoxicated, fatigued or speeding.
