Family From Mexico Critically Injured After Home Explosion In Oxnard Along Lamar Avenue
OXNARD, CALIFORNIA (November 26, 2018) An explosion at a home in Oxnard on Lamar Avenue left three people critically injured.
Oxnard police are saying that a family from Mexico was renting a room in the home when the explosion took place. Witnesses are saying that they heard multiple explosions in the area before seeing a fire.
A man, woman and their infant baby sustained burn injuries from the house fire. Paramedics rushed to the scene and transported the family to the hospital so that they could receive treatment.
An investigation into the home explosion accident remains ongoing at this time. However, the blast appears to have come from the garage.
The owners of the home that was destroyed by the explosion have set up a Go Fund Me campaign. They lost everything in the explosion and are asking for help.
Annette Zuniga, who lost his home in the explosion, said “Today, my family have lost everything they own. Our home is completely destroyed. My parents have worked hard all their lives to buy their home and in a matter of minutes have lost it all. Mentally, we are distraught and have not come into the full realization that this would happen to us. We are left with nothing, the only thing we have left is the clothes we wore to sleep last night. We appreciate any contribution and prayers for our family.”
Causes Of Home Explosions
There are a number of reasons why house explosions occur. One of the most common causes of explosions are gas leaks. A gas leak may occur due to a gas furnace, stove or appliance being hooked up incorrectly. Defective equipment may also leak gas. Faulty manufacturing with gas tanks or gas lines may contribute to dangerous leaks as well. But an explosion can only occur when a combustion source comes into contact with an ignition source. An ignition source could be a light switch, faulty water heater or an open flame. Victims that are injured in a gas explosion may have the ability to file a personal injury claim for damages.
Liability In Home Explosions
A number of entities may face civil liability for the tragic home explosion that injured the family in Oxnard. A gas company could be held liable for an explosion if a defect with their pipes contributed to the leak. Companies that install appliances may be held liable for an explosion as well if their installation caused a leak. Very often installers will use components that don’t fit well and may therefore allow for a leak. Gas explosions can leave victims with devastating injuries and high medical bills. It’s important to seek the legal counsel of an experienced burn injury attorney if you have been the victim of a home explosion.
