NORTH HOLLYWOOD: Bruce Runyon Killed In Accident After Being Crushed By Falling Car At Car Donation Business

Jan 2, 2019

Bruce Runyo North Hollywood: 63-Year-Old Worker Killed In North Hollywood Accident After Car Fell Off Jack At Car Donation Center Located On Laurel Canyon Boulevard

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA (January 2, 2018) – A 63-year-old man identified as Bruce Runyon has tragically died in an accident when a car propped up by a jack fell on top of him on Monday.

Firefighters rushed to the vehicle donation business at Laurel Canyon Boulevard in order to help Bruce Runyon. But he was unable to be revived and died at the scene.

There is an ongoing investigation into what may have caused the jack to fail. Cal/OSHA and the Los Angeles Police Department are continuing their investigation at this time.

Liability In Workplace Accidents

When a worker is killed in California there are a number of laws designed to protect the family of the worker. For example, workers that die on the job will be entitled to workers compensation through their surviving family members. In addition to worker’s compensation the family of a worker that died is protected by California’s wrongful death law Code of Civil Procedure 377.60. A wrongful death claim may be possible if an entity separate from a worker’s employer contributed to the accident.

For example, a car might fall onto a worker due to a manufacturing defect with the jack itself. Poor labeling may also play a role. A jack could be mislabeled in terms of how much load it is capable of holding. This could cause catastrophic failure and lead to collapse. It’s important to seek the legal advice of an experienced wrongful death attorney after an accident. An attorney can help take care of you through the worker’s compensation system and simultaneously investigate to see if there is third party negligence.
