Elderly Pedestrian Killed In Monterey Car Accident On Pacific Street
MONTEREY, CALIFORNIA (August 16, 2019) – An elderly woman has tragically died in a pedestrian accident on Pacific Street.
California Highway Patrol are saying that the accident took place around 9:30 a.m. The pedestrian was hit by a vehicle traveling from Madison Street.
Paramedics rushed to the scene in order to help the victim. Despite life-saving efforts the victim later died at the scene.

According to the Centers For Disease Control, “In 2016, 5,987 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes in the United States. This averages to one crash-related pedestrian death every 1.5 hours. Pedestrians ages 65 and older accounted for 20% of all pedestrian deaths in 20161 and an estimated 15% of all pedestrians injured in 2015.” Drivers are supposed to yield the right of way to pedestrians even if they are outside of legally marked crosswalks. Accidents tend to happen during 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The family of any victim that died in a pedestrian accident may have legal recourse through California Vehicle Code 377.60
