Modesto Dog Attack: Pedestrian Injured In Modesto Dog Attack By Colusa Avenue and Crows Landing Road

MODESTO, CALIFORNIA (October 9, 2019) – A pedestrian was injured after being “jumped” by a dog in a commercial area near the intersection of Colusa Avenue and Crows Landing Road.

Modesto police are saying that they responded to the area after reports of a potential fight. By the time deputies arrived at the scene they came across the victim who had puncture wounds.

The victim was transported to the hospital. Police are still investigating what may have led up to the dog attack.

Liability In Modesto Dog Attacks

Dog owners in California are held strictly liable in the event that their dog attacks someone. It doesn’t matter if the animal ever exhibited signs of aggression in the past. According to California Civil Code 3342, “The owner of any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness.”

Victims of dog attacks often suffer from very serious injuries. It’s important to continue to seek follow up care after an accident. An untreated infection, for example, can be deadly. Any person that is injured in a dog attack may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a bodily injury claim can help with lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A dog bite injury attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
