Chad Bird Marysville: 28-Year-Old Man Mauled And Attacked By Three Pit Bull Dogs After Saving 14-Year-Old At Eastlake Park

MARYSVILLE, CALIFORNIA (January 10, 2018) – A 28-year-old man named Chad Bird was seriously injured after he was attacked by three adult pit bulls in Eastlake Park.

The incident began on Tuesday as Chad Bird saw a 14-year-old boy being mauled by three pit bulls in Eastlake Park. Despite numerous adults being around the young boy no one was helping.

Chad Bird got out of his car and began running towards the dogs. He was able to stop the attack by yelling and kicking the dogs. But then they turned on him and began attacking.

One dog bit down on each of his arms. He was able to break free and run back to his car. But the three dogs were able to catch up to him and knocked him down by his car.

A neighbor identified as Max Jacobo came to the rescue with a shovel. He was able to stop the dogs attack and help get Chad Bird to safety. Marysville police confiscated the dogs and are debating whether they should be put down.

Liability In Dog Attacks

California has very strict laws when it comes to dog attacks. Owner are expected to secure their dogs and prevent them from attacking anyone. This applies to everyone both on and off the owner’s personal property. In short, an owner is virtually always responsible if their dog attacks someone. It doesn’t matter if the dog had ever previously displayed vicious behavior.

According to the California Civil Code 3342, “(a) The owner of any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness. A person is lawfully upon the private property of such owner within the meaning of this section when he is on such property in the performance of any duty imposed upon him by the laws of this state or by the laws or postal regulations of the United States, or when he is on such property upon the invitation, express or implied, of the owner.”

The average cost of a dog injury claim is around $26,166. That can actually be quite low if a person’s injuries are severe or if they need surgery. It’s a lot for a single individual to pay for. Victim’s of dog attacks are able to recover damages for their injuries by filing a bodily injury claim. A dog bite injury attorney can evaluate the specific facts of your case and let you know how much you may be entitled to.
