Blue Sky Towing Tow Truck Accident In Lucerne Valley Left Multiple People Injured

LUCERNE VALLEY, CALIFORNIA (January 7, 2018) – Two people were seriously injured in an accident when a Blue Sky Towing Tow Truck lost its brakes and went down an embankment on Highway 18.

California Highway Patrol are saying that the accident took place on Sunday around 2:18 p.m. on Highway 18 not far from a Mitsubishi Cement Plant. The Blue Sky Towing truck was towing a white van at the time of the accident.

For reasons that remain under investigation, the tow truck left the roadway and traveled 60 feet down an embankment. Firefighters arrived at the scene and they came across two people that were trapped inside the mangled tow truck.

One witness said that the tow truck’s brakes were smoking right before it went off the road. Two minors inside of the vehicle were also taken to the hospital in order to receive treatment.

Pictures of the scene of the accident show the tow truck with major front end damage, though the van managed to stay on top of the flatbed tow truck.

Liability In Tow Truck Accidents

Lucerne Valley can be a treacherous place to operate a truck. Any area with steep terrain can put a tremendous amount of stress on the brakes of a truck. This is why most mountainous areas have runaway truck ramps if a truck ends up losing its brakes. Depending on the facts of any case, there could be multiple sources of liability in a tow truck accident.

There may be negligence on the part of a driver if they were not operating their brakes correctly. For example, continuously pressing down lightly on brakes while traveling downhill can cause them to fail. This can cause brakes to overheat and lockup thereby leading to catastrophic failure. A third-party company could be liable for a brake failure accident if they did a poor job maintaining a truck’s brakes.

Victims of truck accident can be left with severe injuries and high medical bills. According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the average cost for a truck accident with injuries is around $200,000. This financial burden can be absolutely devastating to most people. A truck accident attorney can investigate the specific facts of your case and let you know what your rights are.
