Los Angeles police are saying that the fight took place on Saturday morning. Rafael Reyna was on Facetime with his wife when there was a commotion.

For reasons that remain under investigation, the victim struck his head on concrete. The incident took place around 1:00 a.m. after the Dodgers finished playing against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Rafael Reyna was transported to the USC Medical center and remains on life support after suffering a skull fracture. There have been no arrests at this time following the attack.

This is far from the first time that there have been fights at the Dodger Stadium. A number of fights broke out on the second night of the 2019 season. Nearly 8 years ago another man sustained a serious head injury the parking lot of the Dodger Stadium following a game.

Liability In Fights At The Dodger Stadium

Every business has a responsibility to take measures to make their premises reasonably safe. According to the California Civil Code § 1714 subsection (a), “Everyone is responsible, not only for the result of his or her willful acts, but also for an injury occasioned to another by his or her want of ordinary care or skill in the management of his or her property or person, except so far as the latter has, willfully or by want of ordinary care, brought the injury upon himself or herself.” This includes measures to take reasonable steps to prevent attacks and crime.

Tensions can often run high after sports games. If you throw alcohol and lax security into the equation the results can be catastrophic. There are a number of security measures that stadium owners can take to help keep fans safe. This may include:

  • Hiring security guards
  • Keeping parking lots well-lit
  • Installing cameras

The level of security that a business should utilize will depend on a variety of factors. For example, if there are a history of attacks or fights at a given location a company should take additional safety measures. If a company fails to take reasonable measures to protect fans they may face civil liability in the event of an attack. Victims may be able to receive support for medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering. A premises liability attorney can examine the specific facts of your case and let you know what your options are.
