Liability In Bus Accidents
Bus companies are considered common carriers under the law. As such, they are held to a heightened standard in terms of safety. According to Squaw Valley Ski Corporation v. Superior Court, “The elevated standard of care for common carriers is “based on a recognition that the privilege of serving the public as a common carrier necessarily entails great responsibility, requiring common carriers to exercise a high duty of care towards their customers.” Bus accidents tend to happen for a wide variety of different reasons:
Buses have large blind spots and accidents to happen when drivers make left turns. The bus driver will focus on oncoming traffic and not even realize that a pedestrian is in the crosswalk. Any person that is injured in a bus accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A bus accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal rights are.
