LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (March 28, 2019) – One man was injured in an explosion in Koreatown at an apartment complex located on the 800 block of South Ardmore Avenue.
Los Angeles police initially believe that the explosion was the result of a drug lab. But no evidence of a drug lab or criminal activity were found. Police are now saying that the explosion was an accident.
The sole resident of the apartment where the explosion took place was treated for his injuries. It remains unclear what caused the accident.
Liability In Explosion Accidents
There are a number of sources of potential liability for any explosion accident. This will depend on the source and cause of the explosion. If the explosion was related to appliances or features in an apartment the property owner could face civil liability. According to the California Civil Code § 1714 subsection (a), “Everyone is responsible, not only for the result of his or her willful acts, but also for an injury occasioned to another by his or her want of ordinary care or skill in the management of his or her property or person, except so far as the latter has, willfully or by want of ordinary care, brought the injury upon himself or herself.”
Property owners should be taking steps to ensure that reasonable measures are taken to prevent accidents. An explosion can take place due to a faulty water heater, gas stove or other gas based appliance. A gas company could also face civil liability for an explosion accident if it was caused by a defective or leaking gas line. Victims of explosion accidents may have recourse through a bodily injury claim. A premises liability attorney can examine the specific facts of your case and let you know what your options are. An attorney can help get you money for your lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering.
