Jogger In Northridge Community of Los Angeles Seriously Injured After Dog Attack Involving Dogo Argentino
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (June 4, 2019) – A jogger was seriously injured in a dog attack after a Dogo Argentino escaped a yard and bit the victim.
The victim is described as a very slim male in his early to mid 50’s. He said that all he did was jog by the owners yard prior to the attack.
The victim said that he was laying on his back during the attack and calling for help. Eventually the owner of the dog was able to pull the Dogo Argentino off the victim.
The Los Angeles Animal Services Commission has conducted an investigation and said that the 100 lb Dogo Argentino should be listed as a “dangerous dog.”
The victim told investigators that he already has medical bills of over $190,000 from the attack.
Liability In Dog Attacks
California is a strict liability state when it comes to dog attacks. Owners are liable if their dog injures someone regardless if the dog was previously known to be vicious. According to California Vehicle Code 3342, “The owner of any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness.”
Any person that is injured in a dog attack can hold the owner of the dog liable through a civil claim. Damages can include money for lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Victims of dog attacks very often suffer catastrophic injuries and are left with high medical bills. A dog bite injury attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
