California Highway Patrol are saying that the accident took place around 3:29 a.m. by Sylmar. Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene in order to help the victims.

Liability In Truck Accidents

It has been estimated that there are around 250,000 truck accidents every year in the united states. These accidents cause an estimated 4,000 deaths and tens of thousands of injuries. According to one study by the US Department of Transportation, there are numerous factors associated with truck accidents including:

  • Prescription drug use
  • Speeding
  • Over-the-counter drug use
  • Fatigue
  • Illegal drug use
  • Alcohol

When a truck driver is involved in an accident they are supposed to stop at the scene and contact police. According to California Vehicle Code 2002, “The driver of any vehicle involved in an accident resulting only in damage to any property, including vehicles, shall immediately stop the vehicle at the nearest location that will not impede traffic or otherwise jeopardize the safety of other motorists. Moving the vehicle in accordance with this subdivision does not affect the question of fault.” Victims of truck accidents can be left with devastating injuries and high medical bills including:

  • Bone fractures
  • Internal trauma
  • Head injuries
  • Nerve damage

Any person that is injured in a truck accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Most commercial trucks are required to carry at least $500,000 in liability insurance. This can help victims recover money for medical treatment, lost wages and pain and suffering.  A truck accident attorney can fight on your behalf and make sure that you are fairly compensated. It doesn’t cost anything to hire an attorney and they only get paid if the successfully resolve your case.
