LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (June 4, 2019) – The uncle of two girls that were tragically killed after being hit by a semi-truck identified as Antonio Lorenzo was injured in an accident with a BMW driver fleeing police.
Los Angeles police are saying that Antonio Lorenzo was in an Infinity SUV when he was rear-ended by a driver fleeing police. Authorities suspect that the BMW may have been stolen.
Antonio Lorenzo told reporters that he did not recall the impact and was awoken from the crash by someone tapping on his window. Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene and transported Antonio Lorenzo to the hospital.
This car accident came just two months after Marlene Lorenzo and Amy Lorenzo were killed from being hit by a semi-truck while walking to school. You can help support the family of the two victims by donating to the Go Fund Me page set up for them.
Liability In Police Accidents
Generally speaking, the police will not be held liable for accidents involving fleeing suspects. This is true as long as authorities engage their lights and sirens in order to warn others about their presence. In the absence of lights and sirens, the police could face liability for a crash involving a fleeing suspect. Of course, a suspect could face liability for causing an accident as well.
Victims of car accidents may be able to recover damages for lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Many car accident victims will not even realize the full extent of their injuries until several weeks or months after an accident. Even a moderate whiplash injury can cost anywhere from $60,000 to $120,000. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
