Levi Miller and Shane Sturgis Died In Head-On Sutter County Truck Accident; Tony Sichley and Steven Dillon Survive Highway 99 Crash With Injuries

YUBA CITY, CALIFORNIA (October 10, 2018) Two people in a Ford F-150 pickup truck identified as Levi Miller and Shane Sturgis were tragically killed in a truck accident after a big rig truck on Highway 99 drifted into their lane.

California Highway Patrol are reporting that Tony Sichley and Steven Dillon were also in the pickup truck that was hit head-on, but they were able to survive.

For reasons that remain under investigation, the driver of a big rig began drifting from his southbound lane on Highway 99 right before the accident. The two vehicles crashed into each others drivers sides killing Levi Miller and Shane Sturgis.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash. An investigation into the fatal Sutter County truck accident remains ongoing  at this time. Authorities took measures to document the scene.

Conducting An Investigation Into A Truck Accident

Authorities will conduct their own investigation into a crash, but this will be far from exhaustive. There are a number of factors that should be examined in the fatal truck accident that killed Levi Miller and Shane Sturgis and injured Tony Sichley and Steven Dillon. A truck accident attorney can subpoena records from a trucking company and take numerous other measures to get information. Here are just a few of the factors that should be investigated after a truck accident.

  • Did the truck driver possess a valid commercial license?

  • Are they able to read and speak English?

  • Are they in good health and do they have a valid medical certificate?

  • Did the truck driver properly secure their cargo?

  • Were safety regulations overlooked?

  • Did the driver get enough sleep?

An attorney can interview the driver, law enforcement and relevant witnesses. Truck companies will often fight hard to deny liability after an accident. This is why it’s so important to at least talk to an attorney about your case so that you can avoid potential pitfalls

Liability In Truck Accidents

There are a number of ways that a trucking company may be liable for the accident that killed  Levi Miller and Shane Sturgis and injured Tony Sichley and Steven Dillon. If the truck driver was speeding or simply not paying attention to the road this may potentially constitute negligence. In general, a number of truck accidents occur because the driver was drowsy and began to fall asleep. Truck drivers are supposed to get adequate sleep but insomnia, medical conditions or work schedules may make this difficult. Victims of a truck accident or their family may be able to file a claim for damages including lost wages, pain and suffering and medical bills.
