14-People Were Injured In Lancaster Car Accident Involving Travel Van By North 60th Street West and West Avenue F
LANCASTER, CALIFORNIA (April 8, 2019) – At least 14 people were injured in a car accident after a travel van collided with another car near the intersection of North 60th Street West and West Avenue F.
California Highway Patrol are saying that the accident took place around Saturday at noon and left two people critically injured. The victims in the travel van departed from Culver City and were on their way to Lancaster to view the poppy fields.
According to reports, the white travel van was going westbound when it collided head-on with a Mini Cooper. The van rolled several times before slamming into a light pole.
One of the victims was taken to the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in critical condition. A second person also listed in critical condition was taken to the Northridge hospital.
The driver of the van told authorities that she was not familiar with the area. Police are looking into the possibility that the van ran a stop sign before the collision.
Liability Van Accidents
Travel vans are considered “common carriers” under the law. A common carrier is any company that agrees to transport goods or people in exchange for money. Common carriers are held to a very high standard in terms of safety. According to Acostav. Southern California Rapid Transit Dist, “Common carriers bind themselves to carry safely those whom they take into their vehicles, and owe both a duty of utmost care and the vigilance of a very cautious person towards their passengers. Such carriers are responsible for any, even the slightest, negligence and are required to do all that human care, vigilance, and foresight reasonably can do under all the circumstances.”
A number of collisions occur every year when drivers are simply not paying attention or are otherwise unfamiliar with the roadway. If the driver of a van was negligent and causes an accident the company that they work for could face vicarious liability. Companies are generally responsible for the negligence of their employees. This is true insofar as the negligent employee was working within the scope and course of their job duties. Victim’s of car accidents can be left with serious and life-long injuries including:
- Head and brain injuries
- Neck and back injuries
- Burn injuries
- Soft tissue injuries
- Spinal injuries
- Broken bones
Victims of car accidents may be able to recover damages through a bodily injury claim. A car accident attorney can fight on your behalf to make sure that you are compensated for lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. There are statute of limitations associated with being able to pursue a claim, so it’s important to act quickly.
