Liability In Car Accidents

All drivers are supposed to keep an eye out for pedestrians and other animals near the roadway. Drivers must use caution to avoid colliding with anyone – even pedestrians outside of marked crosswalks. According to California Vehicle Code 21950, “The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, except as otherwise provided in this chapter.”

Animals can be unpredictable, which is why drivers should slow down around them. Victims of pedestrian accidents may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Accident victims may not even realize the full extent of their injuries until several weeks or months after an accident. This is why it’s so important to seek medical treatment after an accident. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
