Liability In Car Accidents
All drivers must take care to avoid causing accidents. Most car accidents are due to speeding, distraction or some other form of driver error. According to California Vehicle Code 22350, “No person shall drive a vehicle upon a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable or prudent having due regard for weather, visibility, the traffic on, and the surface and width of, the highway, and in no event at a speed which endangers the safety of persons or property.”
Drivers that fail to operate their vehicles according to the prevailing conditions may face civil liability in the event of a crash. Those that are injured in a car accident may be able to recover monetary damages for medical bills and lost wages. Many victims may not even realize the full extent of their injuries for several weeks or months after an accident.
