Truck Accident Injuries and Causes
Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured every year in truck accidents. Many of the injuries associated with truck accidents may not even be immediately obvious. Victims can suffer from traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, whiplash, post traumatic stress, bone fractures and much more. Usually there are a number of factors that may contribute to an accident. Here are a few of the most common causes of truck crashes:
Debris: Trash or foreign objects in the roadway regularly causes trucks to swerve erratically and hit cars.
Driver inexperience: Driving a truck is very different from driving a small sedan. It is more difficult to brake and maneuver.
Speeding: Truck drivers that speed are especially dangerous. As traffic slows these drivers are often not able to bring their rigs to a safe stop and end up rear ending other vehicles.
Poor Road Conditions: Driving in a safe manner does not simply entail obeying the speed limit. Drivers should operate their vehicles according to the prevailing conditions of the road. For example, if it’s raining truck drivers should slow down even if the speed limit allows them to go faster.
When a truck driver fails to drive in a safe manner and keep an eye out for other vehicles that can be extremely dangerous. Depending on the particular facts of any case victims of a truck accident may have the ability to file a claim for damages including lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering.
Liability In Commercial Truck Accidents
Truck drivers should take every precaution available to decrease the likelihood of a collision. Maintenance should be performed on the truck and speed limits should be observed. Navigating in dense cities and urban environments can be a challenge. Inexperienced truck drivers may not be able to safely navigate certain locations. If a truck driver fails to obey traffic laws they may face liability in the event of an accident. Moreover, if the truck driver was working when the accident took place that may impose liability on their employer. There is a complex mesh of potential areas for liability in truck collisions. Victims of truck accidents may feel overwhelmed when faced with a loss or high medical bills. An attorney can be extremely helpful in such a scenario. They can take steps to preserve evidence and to make sure that your rights are being protected.
