Motorcyclist Injured In Accident With Salvation Army Truck By The Intersection of Cottonwood Avenue and Juniper Street

HESPERIA, CALIFORNIA (April 6, 2019) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured after he hit a Salvation Army truck while making a left turn near the intersection of Cottonwood Avenue and Juniper Street.

Hesperia police are saying that the crash took place on April 2 around 1:02 p.m. The motorcyclist was riding a 2011 Harley Davidson when he collided with a 2012 Salvation Army Kenworth truck making a left turn.

The rider of the Harley Davidson had to be airlifted to the Regional Medical Center. The Salvation Army Truck Driver remained at the scene.

Liability In Truck Accidents

Truck drivers have a responsibility to operate their vehicles in a reasonably safe manner and take steps to avoid accidents. A number of collisions happen when truck drivers make left turns without checking first to see if there are any oncoming cars. In particular, motorcyclists have a very small profile and often get overlooked by commercial truck drivers.

According to the California Vehicle Code 21801, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to the approaching vehicles until the left turn or U-turn can be made with reasonable safety.”

Drivers that are injured in accidents with commercial trucks may have legal recourse. A truck accident attorney can investigate your case free of cost and let you know what your options are. Victims may be entitled to damages for their injuries including lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Unfortunately, truck companies work hard to try to deny responsibility for an accident. But an attorney can make sure that you are protected and being taken care of.
