Marie Rose Hemet: 14-Year-Old Boy Injured In Pit Bull Dog Attack After Dog Became Loose Near Apartment Complex And Began Chasing People
HEMET, CALIFORNIA (January 22, 2019) – Multiple people were injured when a pit bull dog became loose and attacked two people including a 14-year-old boy, according to the boy’s guardian Marie Rose.
Hemet police are saying that the dog attack took place around Douglas Court by Johnston Avenue. At some point around 4:35 p.m. a pit bull got loose and attacked the 14-year-old boy. He was taken to the hospital in order to receive stitches to his leg.
There was a second dog with the pit bull, but that dog did not attack anyone. Marie Rose is the guardian of the boy that was injured. She told authorities that the dog belonged to her neighbor.
Liability In Dog Attacks
California is a strict liability state when it comes to dog attacks. Owners are usually responsible when their dogs attack someone, even if the dog was not previously known to be vicious. According to the California Civil Code 3342, “The owner of any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness.”
Victims of dog attacks are able to recover damages by filing a claim against the negligent dog owner. A dog bite injury attorney can evaluate all of the specific facts of your case and let you know what your rights are. Damages in a dog bite case may include financial compensation for lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering.
