What To Do After A Bus Accident
Buses can weigh tens of thousands of pounds and deliver a tremendous amount of force in the event that they crash. A victim may be seriously injured and incur high medical bills and need to take time off work. There are a number of steps that a person involved in a bus accident should take in order to help preserve their rights.
The police will conduct an examination of every bus accident. But it’s important that victims are proactive. Take pictures of the accident scene and seek out witnesses and get their contact information.
Seek medical treatment even if you don’t feel as though you are injured. Many of the injuries associated with car accidents and bus accidents may not manifest until several days or weeks after an accident. Insurance companies will try to send you to their doctors who are paid to report that you are not injured.
Seek the advice of an experienced bus accident attorney. Insurance companies will also try to get a statement from you about the accident. It’s simply never a good idea to do this without legal guidance. A personal injury attorney can take steps to make sure your rights are being protected.
Victims of a bus accident or their family are protected by a number of laws. For example, a person injured by a bus accident would normally be able to receive compensation for lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering.
Liability In Accidents Involving Tour Buses
Investigators will want to look at a number of different factors in order to determine liability for the tragic accident that killed Renee Rodriguez and Lumumba Richard. Bus drivers are humans and they make mistakes just like everyone else. Generally speaking, the vast majority of rear end collisions occur due to drivers that aren’t paying attention. Speeding is also another major factor. When a bus driver is negligent while performing their duties the company that they work for may also face liability as well. Passenger buses that are capable of holding more than 16 people generally must carry liability insurance of $5 million or more. But drivers are not always solely to blame. In many circumstances, bus companies will push their employees to work grueling hours and fatigue can naturally set in. It’s important to have an experienced attorney looking into all of the specific facts of your case and advocating on your behalf in the event of an accident.
