PERRIS, CALIFORNIA (December 26, 2018) – A woman was tragically killed in a car accident when she was hit by a vehicle that was attached to a horse trailer on Christmas.
California Highway Patrol are saying that the accident happened around 7:41 p.m. along Post Road. The incident occurred during some type of Rodeo Event where a large crowd had formed.
Police stopped the driver down the road following the fatal collision. It remains unclear if there were any horses in the trailer at the time of the accident.
Liability In Accidents With Horse Trailers
Most pedestrian accidents take place between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Drivers as well as pedestrians should exercise extra caution during this time. If a driver is not paying attention and hits a pedestrian they could face civil liability. Investigators will examine a number of factors in order to determine who was responsible for the accident. Generally speaking, when a driver hits a pedestrian and keeps going this is strong evidence that they were not paying attention.
A person’s injuries will also say a lot about how an accident took place. Indeed, there is a whole field of forensic science known as accident reconstruction devoted towards understanding how accidents take place. Depending on the facts of any case liability may extend beyond the at-fault driver. For example, if a person was transporting horses for a business and then hits a pedestrian the company that they worked for could be held liable. A car accident attorney can evaluate the specific facts of your case and let you know what your options are.
