Larry Flynt’s Lucky Lady Casino Roof Collapse Accident In Gardena Injured 11 People on Rosecrans Avenue

GARDENA, CALIFORNIA (July 16, 2019) – At least 11 people have been injured in a roof collapse accident at Larry Flynt’s Lucky Lady Casino on Rosecrans Avenue.

Gardena police are saying that the accident took place around 10:00 a.m. Debris from the roof came down and hit several people who were gambling.

Larry Flynt’s Lucky Lady Casino had a major water leak, but it remains unclear if that was the cause of the collapse. Gardena officials were called to the scene in order to investigate and help ensure the casino is safe to reopen.

Multiple people had to be transported to the hospital after the roof collapse at Larry Flynt’s Lucky Lady Casino.

Cause of Roof Collapse Accidents

Roof collapse accidents are actually fairly common. A collapse can occur completely without warning and leave victims with serious injuries. They can occur for a variety of different reasons including:

  • Illegal construction modifications. Buildings must be structurally sound and changes to the design of a roof may contribute to a collapse.
  • Roof loads: Roofs are only designed to withstand a certain amount of weight. If a building owners puts equipment or material on a roof this could lead to a collapse.
  • Illegal materials: Roofs must not only have the right designs. They must also be built with the correct materials. Some contractors cut corners and use materials not fit for a structure.

A roof may slowly cave in over time or it can happen seemingly out of the blue. It’s important that evidence is collected and preserved after an accident. An engineer will typically be able to examine the aftermath and figure out the cause of the collapse. Depending on the facts of any case, there may be numerous sources of liability for a roof collapse accident.

Liability In Roof Collapse Accidents

Larry Flynt’s Lucky Lady Casino and other companies in Gardena have a legal responsibility to maintain their premises in a relatively safe manner. According to the California Civil Code § 1714 subsection (a), “Everyone is responsible, not only for the result of his or her willful acts, but also for an injury occasioned to another by his or her want of ordinary care or skill in the management of his or her property or person, except so far as the latter has, willfully or by want of ordinary care, brought the injury upon himself or herself.”

If a casino or other company was negligent in maintaining their property the could be held responsible through a civil claim. But a casino may not be the only entity responsible for an accident. A number of roof collapses are caused by the negligent work done by third party contractors. There are a number of laws designed to protect the rights of accident victims.

The victim of any roof collapse accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. It is important to see a doctor after an accident. Many people will not realize the full extent of their injuries until several weeks or months later. A premises liability attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your rights are.
