Liability In Police Car Accidents
Police officers typically enjoy a great deal of immunity in the event of an accident. However, police officers must warn the public about their presence by using their lights and sirens while they are responding to an actual emergency. If a police officer was not using their lights and sirens or not otherwise responding to an emergency they may be liable in the event of a collision.
Any person that is injured in an accident with a police officer may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering. It’s important to see a doctor after an accident. A car accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
