Woman and Her Husband Injured When Semi Truck Rear Ended Their Vehicle On Highway 41 In Fresno County
FRESNO, CALIFORNIA (December 3, 2018) A man and a woman in their 70’s were seriously injured when a semi-truck rear ended the pickup truck that they were in on Highway 41.
California Highway Patrol are saying that the semi truck hit the married couple while they were preparing to stop at a red light. Authorities responded to the scene of the accident and found the elderly couple injured.
Their white Toyota hit a pole after the accident and the woman was taken to the Community Regional Medical Center. Another vehicle was hit by flying debris following the truck accident.
It remains unclear if the driver of that car was injured. An investigation remains ongoing.
Liability In Rear End Truck Accidents
Truck drivers have a responsibility to operate their vehicles in a reasonably safe manner and to take steps to avoid accidents. When a truck driver rear ends another vehicle there is a presumption of negligence on the part of that driver. No truck should ever approach another vehicle close enough so that a rear end collision occurs. However, there are a number of other factors that could potentially cause a rear end accident. Worn tires, brake failure and poor road maintenance can all contribute to an accident.
Trucks can weigh 80,000 lbs and naturally take longer than cars to brake. This is why maintenance is so crucial. Victims of truck accidents can be left with devastating injuries and require extensive medical care. It’s important to seek the advice of an experienced truck accident attorney if you’ve been injured. Insurance companies will fight hard to deny liability or downplay the extent of your injuries. An attorney can work to get you compensation for medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering.
