What To Do After A Car Accident
It has been estimated that around 35,000 people are killed every year in car accidents in the United States. Millions more are seriously injured. There are a number of steps that a victim or their family should take following an accident in order to preserve their rights.
Take pictures of the accident scene and surrounding environment if possible.
Get the other driver’s contact and insurance information.
Seek out witnesses if possible. A number of crashes occur at intersections where there are cameras, but this isn’t always the case.
Seek treatment if you are injured. Insurance companies will try to deny that you were injured if you wait too long to seek treatment or if there are gaps in your treatment.
Contact an experienced car accident attorney. An attorney can help you recover damages for a wrongful death.
Depending on the facts of any case there may be multiple entities that could face civil liability for an accident. A number of accidents take place at dangerous intersections. A city could be held liable for an accident that was caused by a “dangerous condition on public property.” Victims of car accidents caused by defects in the roadway may be able to file a municipal negligence claim for damages.
