Adnan Nijmeddin Fresno: Adnan Nijmeddin Died In Fresno Truck Accident While Riding Motorcycle By Shaw Avenue and Golden State Boulevard

FRESNO, CALIFORNIA (August 8, 2019) – A 25-year-old motorcyclist identified as Adnan Nijmeddin has tragically died in an accident with a semi-truck by Shaw Avenue and Golden State Boulevard.

Fresno police are saying that Adnan Nijmeddin was riding with a 32-year-old man around 3:00 p.m. A semi-truck driver apparently made a turn in front of the two victims before the accident.

The crash caused a gas leak which ended up lighting the 32-year-old motorcyclist on fire. A bystander with a fire extinguisher was eventually able to put out the fire before he was transported to the hospital.

Despite life-saving efforts Adnan Nijmeddin later died due to his injuries. The driver of the semi-truck remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.

Liability In Semi-Truck Accidents

According to IIHS, “Truck braking capability can be a factor in truck crashes. Loaded tractor-trailers take 20-40 percent farther than cars to stop, and the discrepancy is greater on wet and slippery roads or with poorly maintained brakes. Truck driver fatigue also is a known crash risk. Drivers of large trucks are allowed by federal hours-of-service regulations to drive up to 11 hours at a stretch. Surveys indicate that many drivers violate the regulations and work longer than permitted.”

Truck drivers are only human and they make mistakes like everyone else. They make mistakes especially when they are fatigued. Semi-trucks tend to have very large blind spots. It is easy for a sedan or a motorcyclist to be completely obscured from a truck driver’s field of vision.

A number of truck accidents happen when truck drivers make turns in front of motorcyclists. This should not happen. Trucks and other vehicles must exercise caution before making a turn and yield the right of way to vehicles that are close enough to pose a hazard. According to California Vehicle Code 21801

“The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement.”

The family of any person that died in a semi-truck accident may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim.  Potential claimants in a civil matter may include a victim’s siblings, spouse, children or parents. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. Unfortunately, truck companies will often try to deny liability following an accident. A truck accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case free of cost and let you know what your options are.
