According to KTLA, a fatal crash occurred on the 5 Freeway in Arleta, which killed one person and injured five others on Friday, September 15, 2017.
According to authorities, a Honda CRV was experiencing issues and was stopped in a carpool lane on the freeway, when it was struck by a Honda Sedan around 3:10 a.m.
The Honda Sedan was then struck by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department cruiser and another vehicle was involved in the collision as well.
The sheriff’s deputies were transporting two inmates at the time of the crash. The inmates were treated for minor injuries.
According to authorities, the sedan burst into flames shortly after the crash. The driver died at the scene and has not been identified.
The 5 Freeway remained closed for hours following the crash, which resulted in a miles-long traffic backup.
