Exposition Park Bus Accident: Tour Bus Accident Killed Man In His 60s After Victim Was Dragged By Hit-And-Run Driver Near South Flower Street and West 23rd Street In Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (January 11, 2018) – A hit-and-run accident involving a tour bus has left one man in his 60’s dead after he was dragged near Exposition Park.
Los Angeles Police Department officials are saying that the accident took place around 5:00 p.m. The victim was apparently dragged over 100 feet before the bus driver got on the 110 freeway and then drove away.
Authorities think that the victim may have been homeless and later died due to his injuries. One witness was able to get video footage of the bus and police were able to locate it in Gardena.
The bus has since been impounded as authorities continue to investigate.
Liability In Tour Bus Accidents
Tour buses are considered common carriers under the law. As such, bus drivers are held to a very high standard. They are expected to use every precaution to drive safely and avoid hitting pedestrians or other vehicles. Common carriers must closely supervise their employees and provide them with training. But far too often this does not happen.
According to the Judicial Council of California Civil Jury Instructions (2017 edition), “While a common carrier does not guarantee the safety of its passengers[or property that it transports], it must use reasonable skill to provide everything necessary for safe transportation, in view of the transportation used and the practical operation of the business.”
The family of a victim that died in a tour bus accident is able to seek justice by filing a claim against the tour bus company that employed the driver. Damages in a wrongful death case may include economic and non-economic losses. A bus accident attorney can investigate all aspects of your case and let you know what your rights are.
