Authorities are saying that the car accident happened shortly after the start of the race by the starting line. A man who goes by the name “Monster Mike” said he was by the starting line and witnessed the crash.
Monster Mike said safety has been a big concern at these events because of the lack of race officials and safety marshalls. Magda Angel was seriously injured when she was hit and thrown by the tire of a truck.
She suffered a traumatic brain injury, a broken eye socket and number bone fractures. Score International, the race organizer, said that the accident took place in a fenced off area. Authorities are saying that she was transported to the UC San Diego Medical Center in order to receive treatment.

Liability In Car Accidents At Races
There are a number of entities that could face civil liability for the tragic car accident that injured Magda Angel. Generally speaking, race tracks carry liability insurance in case a spectator, participant or staff member is injured. Workers that are injured on the job may have the ability to file a workers compensation claim in order to be compensated for damages. But these policies are often deficient when a worker like a model is seriously injured. A third party claim may be possible if an entity separate from a worker’s employer was responsible for the accident.
A third-party at a race track may include a driver. Drivers are supposed to exercise caution and may face liability if they cause an accident. A race sponsor may be liable as well if safety conditions on the track contributed to an accident. The Baja 1000 lacks a number of safety measures that are present in other races. Moreover, the service company responsible for taking care of a race car may face liability if an accident was caused by a malfunction with the car. A number of accidents occur when race cars spill oil or have issues with the throttle. Any person that is injured in a car accident at a race track may have the ability to file a personal injury claim for damages.
