27-Year-Old Motorcyclist From Santee Died In El Cajon Car Accident By The Intersection of Olde Highway 80 and Bond Avenue
EL CAJON, CALIFORNIA (June 8, 2019) – A 27-year-old man was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident not far from the intersection of Olde Highway 80 and Bond Avenue.
California Highway Patrol are saying that a 19-year-old woman in a Hyundai was making a u-turn and crossed directly into the path of the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist was ejected and sustained major injuries. He was transported to the Sharp Memorial hospital where he later died due to his injuries.
Neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to have been factors in the crash.
Liability In Motorcycle Accidents
Unfortunately, motorcyclists are disproportionately likely to be killed or seriously injured by careless drivers. This is especially true with respect to drivers making left turns or u-turns. According to California Vehicle Code 21801:
“The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to the approaching vehicles until the left turn or U-turn can be made with reasonable safety.”
Any person that is injured by a driver making a left turn may be able to file a claim for damages. The family of any victim of a motorcycle accident will typically have recourse as well. Damages in a civil claim can include compensation for funeral expenses, lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A motorcycle accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case and let you know what your rights are.
