East Bay Regional Park Dog Attack: Woman Bitten By Dog On Goldenrod Trail Near The Clyde Woolridge Staging Area
EAST BAY, CALIFORNIA (February 28, 2019) – Police are searching for the owner of a dog that attacked a woman in the East Bay Regional Park on February 21.
The woman was bitten on the leg on the Goldenrod Trail. Unfortunately the owner of the dog took off and did not provide the victim with any information.
Authorities are hoping that anyone with knowledge about the dog owner will come forward. She is being described as a slender light-skinned woman about 5 feet 11 with brown shoulder length hair.
She had on a black jacket and dark pants when the attack took place. An investigation into the dog attack remains ongoing at this point.
Liability In Dog Attacks
California is a “strict liability” state when it comes to dog attacks. Dog owners have a responsibility to secure their animals at all times. According to the California Civil Code 3342, “The owner of any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness.”
The medical costs associated with treating a dog bite can be very significant. According to the Insurance Journal, “The average cost paid out for dog bite claims was $37,051 in 2017.” Treatment may include costly and painful skin grafts. Any person that is injured may be able to recover damages through a personal injury claim. A dog bite injury attorney can evaluate the specific facts of your case and let you know how much you may be entitled to.
