According to the OC Register, a nine-year veteran of the Cypress Police Department was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on the 405 Freeway on Sunday, October 8, 2017.
The officer, identified as Matt Ward, 33, was off duty during the time of the crash. Ward was in the car with his 5-year-old son when another driver lost control of his vehicle. The impact of the crash caused Ward’s truck to crash into the center divider.
Ward’s son sustained minor injuries, but Ward was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
