Liability In Motel Fires
Motel owners have a responsibility to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe manner in order to prevent accidents and injuries. The motel should be compliant with the fire code and be equipped with working smoke detectors. A number of motel fires happen in older buildings with poor electrical wiring. Wires can become exposed over time due to weather and wear. A fire might occur if those exposed wires come into contact with an ignition source, like a leaking gas stove.
The family of a victim that dies in a motel fire is able to seek justice through California’s wrongful death law CCP Section 377.60. It’s always a good idea to seek the guidance of an experienced premises liability attorney following an accident. An attorney can investigate your claim free of charge and let you know what your rights are. Preserving key pieces of evidence in a timely manner following an accident is crucial when investigating a motel fire. So it’s important to act quickly.
