Bulldozer Operator Killed In Bodega Accident After Being Run Over By His Vehicle
BODEGA, CALIFORNIA (October 4, 2018) California Highway Patrol are saying that the operator of a bulldozer in Sonoma County died after he was run over by his own machine.
The victim has only been identified as a 70-year-old hispanic male. He was working to clear the area prior to the accident.
The bulldozer had apparently gotten away from the man after it was in neutral. Police think that the victim may have been trying to get something out of the way when he was run over.
Paramedics arrived at the scene but he could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation into the fatal bulldozer accident remains ongoing at this time.
How to Stay Safe While Working With A Bulldozer
Bulldozers can be extremely dangerous. They are deceptively slow but they carry enough weight to kill any person that gets run over. There are a number of safety procedures that should be followed in order to stay safe around bulldozers.
Only qualified personnel should be allowed to operate bulldozers.
Seatbelts should always be used to prevent the driver from being thrown off and crushed.
Bulldozers should have rollover protection structures. This will help keep workers safe in the event it rolls over.
Bulldozers should always be put in park on level ground.
Victims of bulldozer accidents are often left with traumatic injuries or may even die. Depending on the facts of the case, a victim or their family may be able to file a claim for damages. A Los Angeles wrongful death attorney can examine the details of your case and take steps to preserve your rights.
Liability In Bulldozer Accidents
When a worker sustains an injury or is killed on the job in California they will typically have the ability to file a worker’s compensation claim for damages. In many circumstances there may be additional routes for recovery for victims of work accidents. Workers are barred from bringing suit against their employers directly. But if a third party was responsible for a worker’s accident that may allow an injured worker to file a third party claim. For example, if a bulldozer malfunctioned and ran over a worker this could allow for a product liability claim. A number of heavy machines have defective gear shifts. Sometimes they can pop out of gear from park to neutral. It’s best to have an experienced attorney evaluate the facts of your case so that they can look for third party negligence.
