Construction Worker On Bethel Island Injured In Accident After Being Run Over By Paving Machine Near Willow Road

BETHEL ISLAND, CALIFORNIA (October 15, 2018) A construction worker on Bethel Island was injured in an industrial accident after he was run over by a piece of paving machinery not far from Willow Road.

Fire crew are saying that the machine was an “oiler” which is a little bit smaller than a normal paving machine. The accident took place on Monday at around 4:45 p.m.

Emergency medical workers rushed to the scene in order to treat the injured worker. The worker was run over a second time when the rescuers backed the machine over him so that he could be freed.

The worker was flown to the hospital in Walnut Creek after the Bethel Island accident. The name of the worker has not been released.

Cal/OSHA is continuing their investigation at this time.

Staying Safe At Construction Sites

Construction sites can be extremely hazardous places for workers. Even after decades of advances in safety precautions accidents still happen. OSHA has put forward a number of safety precautions that should be put in place in order to help keep workers safe.

  • Workers should be given eye and face protection. Chemicals and flying particles can leave workers seriously injured. Workers should have easy access to protective gear.

  • Scaffolds should be securely anchored and workers should be given fall arrest systems. Falls remain the leading source of injury and death for construction workers. Anytime a worker is elevated above 6 feet fall arrest systems should be used.

  • There should be active communication between workers when dangerous vehicles are being used. Workers should communicate their intentions and take active steps to scan their environment in order to avoid hitting other people.

Workplace accidents can leave workers with traumatic injuries and high medical bills. Spinal cord injuries and traumatic brain injuries in particular can have devastating consequences. A premises liability attorney can evaluate the facts of your case and let you know what your rights are.

Liability In Construction Site Accidents

When a construction worker is injured in California they may have multiple routes in order to recover damages. Most workers will be able to receive workers compensation in order to help with medical bills and pain and suffering. Depending on the facts of the case, a worker may also be able to file a personal injury claim. When an entity separate from a worker’s employer is responsible for an accident they may face civil liability for a worker’s injury. For example, construction sites are usually made up of a blend of different companies that have to collaborate. If any one of those separate companies was negligent that could give rise to a third party claim.
