Robert Jimenez Bakersfield: Video Circulating On Social Media Shows The Victim Being Chased and Beaten By Police Officers Wielding Batons

BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA (December 22, 2018) – A man that was beaten and arrested by Bakersfield police has been identified as Robert Jimenez.

The incident began around 9:00 a.m. when police officers got a call about a man that was running in and out of traffic. Officers claim that the man assaulted them and a foot chase ensued.

A video of the attack shows police officers carrying batons chasing the unarmed victim down the street. When officers catch up to him they begin mercilessly beating him even after one officer pulls him to the ground.

Robert Jimenez was sentenced to 270 days in jail following the attack.

Liability In Police Assaults

Police officers are entrusted to protect and serve the public. But far too often this trust that we place in them is broken. When a police officer uses excessive force to apprehend a suspect they can be sued. The level of force reasonable to apprehend a suspect is unique to every situation. As a general rule, officers should not beat a suspect that has already been subdued.

Victims of excessive force may be entitled to damages including medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering. It’s important to seek the legal guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney if you have been a victim of police brutality. Officers will fight hard to try to deny liability. A personal injury attorney can take steps to make sure that you’re rights are being protected.
