Liability In Police Assaults
Police officers are entrusted to protect and serve the public. But far too often this trust that we place in them is broken. When a police officer uses excessive force to apprehend a suspect they can be sued. The level of force reasonable to apprehend a suspect is unique to every situation. As a general rule, officers should not beat a suspect that has already been subdued.
Victims of excessive force may be entitled to damages including medical bills, lost wages and pain and suffering. It’s important to seek the legal guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney if you have been a victim of police brutality. Officers will fight hard to try to deny liability. A personal injury attorney can take steps to make sure that you’re rights are being protected.
