Liability In Motorcycle Accidents
According to III, “Motorcycles are by their nature far less crashworthy than closed vehicles. They are also less visible to other drivers and pedestrians and less stable than four-wheel vehicles. Operating a motorcycle requires a different combination of physical and mental skills than those used in driving four-wheel vehicles.” One of the main problems is that motorcycles are small and are more likely to be overlooked.
Drivers often cause accidents with motorcyclist because they make dangerous turns or u-turns. According to California Vehicle Code 21801, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement.”
Any motorcyclist that is injured by a driver making a u-turn may have legal recourse through a bodily injury claim. Damages can help cover lost wages, medical bills and pain and suffering. A motorcycle accident attorney can examine all of the facts of your case free of cost and let you know what your legal options are. It doesn’t cost anything to hire an attorney and they can take steps to make sure your rights are being protected.
