16-Year-Old Girl Injured In Accident After Being Hit By Car In Parking Lot of Frontier High School

BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA (October 5, 2018) A 16-year-old girl from Frontier High School was injured in a car accident at the parking lot of the school.

The victim of the car accident suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital in order to receive treatment. Bakersfield police are saying that the driver who hit the girl was another 16-year-old student.

A number of people familiar with the parking lot at Frontier High School took to social media to vent their frustration. “Frontier Highs parking lot, Is the scariest parking lot I’ve ever driven in!,” said Tracy Martin.

“When I pick up my daughter in the parking lot I was almost hit. I email the principal and she sent it to the dean and the officer. The officer has been in there a couple times. But they are still driving crazy,” said  Sherry Evans Hartline.

“That lot has always been like that Usually the cop is sitting in it . But kids don’t know how to drive They need to put driving school back in school not a 2 week course for 200 bucks ½ year health class other half driving class,” said Cindy Schaefer Bynum.

An investigation into the pedestrian accident at the Frontier High School parking lot that injured one girl remains ongoing at this time.

Most Common Types of Accidents In Parking Lots

Parking lots can be very dangerous places both for drivers and pedestrians. Many cars have to navigate a fairly tight area and also deal with people walking all around. Here are some of the most common types of parking lot accidents and what you can do to avoid them:

  1. Backup Accidents: As drivers are pulling out of their parking space they can hit other cars that are also backing up, vehicles that have the right of way or pedestrians. Pedestrians should always proceed cautiously behind cars with their lights on. Drivers need to check their mirrors and turn around in order to ensure they have room to back up.

  2. Rear End Collisions: A number of accidents occur when one car is stopped at a stop sign or waiting to turn and they are rear ended by another vehicle. The driver that is moving will almost always be held at fault. In order to avoid rear end collisions you are supposed to maintain a safe distance with the car in front of you.

  3. Parking Space Accidents: In crowded parking lots finding a parking space can be a challenge or even a nightmare. Cars often hit each other as they are trying to get into the same space. It’s important to maintain eye contact with other drivers and let them know what your intentions are. Simply slowing down in parking lots could nearly eliminate most of the accidents that occur.

Pedestrians that are hit by cars in parking lots can be left with traumatic injuries and have high medical bills. A pedestrian accident attorney can evaluate the facts of your case and let you know what your rights are.

Liability In Parking Lot Accidents

Parking lot accidents can be quite complex. In many circumstances there may be multiple parties at fault. For example, the driver may be at fault for failing to yield the right of way to a pedestrian. The driver may have been speeding or distracted. Teenagers, in particular, are notoriously bad drivers. As many as 71% admit to speeding and 36% admit to driving aggressively even though they know it’s dangerous. Distractions like cell phones only exacerbate the problem.

Property owners may also bear responsibility for a parking lot accident. If, for example, the parking lot is in a dangerous condition and this contributes to an accident the property owner may be at fault. A lack of stop signs or other safety features could easily contribute to an accident. If the parking lot is at a public high school it will typically be the city that has a responsibility to make sure it’s safe. Victims of parking lot accidents may have the ability to file a claim for damages. An experienced pedestrian accident attorney can take steps to preserve your rights and get you just compensation for your injuries.
