Angela Johnson Seriously Injured In Dog Attack Involving Three Pit Bulls In Anza By Mitchell Road

ANZA, CALIFORNIA (December 15, 2018) – Angelea Johnson was seriously injured and had to be airlifted to the hospital after she was attacked by three pit-bulls.

Riverside County police are saying that the woman was attacked around 9:40 a.m. by Mitchell Avenue. Responding officers described the woman’s injuries as severe.

The owner of the dogs has been located and arrested following the accident. Investigators are saying that the woman was on her property and doing laundry when the attack took place.

The dogs were impounded and the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus and animal services is seeking permission to have them Euthanized. Animal Services Director Robert Miller is urging dog owners to take extra precautions to help prevent these types of attacks.

Liability In Dog Attacks

Dog attacks send an estimated 350,000 people to the emergency room every year in the United States. In 2017 alone, 39 people were killed as a result of dog attacks. Those that survive can often be left with devastating injuries and require multiple surgeries including expensive skin grafts. There is a growing body of evidence for the dangers associated with pit bulls in particular. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, pit bull breeds were responsible for 41.6% of the dog attack fatalities that they investigated.

In California, owners are held strictly liable for the conduct of their dogs. According to the California Civil Code Section 3342, “The owner of any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner’s knowledge of such viciousness. A person is lawfully upon the private property of such owner within the meaning of this section when he is on such property in the performance of any duty imposed upon him by the laws of this state or by the laws or postal regulations of the United States, or when he is on such property upon the invitation, express or implied, of the owner.”

Those that are injured in a dog attack will be able to file a bodily injury claim in order to recover financial compensation. It’s important to make sure that your injuries are well documented and that you seek the legal advice of a dog bite attorney. An attorney can make sure that you receive just compensation and are well taken care of. There are statute of limitations associated with filing a claim so it’s important to act quickly.
