1 dead, 4 injured in Claremont car accident caused by chase suspect

According to ABC 7, one person is dead and multiple people were injured in a car accident caused by a wrong-way pursuit driver on the 210 Freeway in Claremont on Monday, January 28, 2018.

The fatal car accident caused by a 28-year-old driver in a stolen silver pickup truck occurred around 3:25 p.m. near Indian Hill Boulevard.

According to authorities, Nicole Thibault of Santa Clarita, stole a pickup truck at a 7-Eleven parking lot, while the owner’s 2-year-old child was inside the vehicle at the time of the carjacking. The suspect dropped off the child near the scene.

After the suspect fled, she entered the 210 freeway heading westbound in the eastbound lanes and struck several vehicles head-on.

A 69-year-old Fontana man, who has not been identified, was killed in the wrong-way car accident.

The suspect was listed in critical condition and four other victims sustained minor injuries.

The fatal wrong-way car accident remains under investigation. Police are investigating whether or not alcohol or drugs played a factor in the car accident.
